Professional Websites for Small Businesses on a Budget

Objective
Ali started his business Word With Us and wanted to create a fitting online presence for it. His biggest challenge was the creation of the content, which delayed the creation of his website for almost a year. We worked together with a strong focus on positioning, copy and design.
Ali’s Opinion
Ali Moragheb, Word With Us
It took me almost a year from the idea to the finally have a website
I used to work as part of a team but when I opened my own company, I was all by myself. There was nobody to bounce ideas off and the whole project felt so big, I didn’t even know where to start.
I mean picking a design is not that hard. But creating the content was the most difficult part for me was the content. I didn’t want something that everyone else has, so a copy-and-paste job was out of the question. A one-pager site didn’t look professional enough and most of my competitor websites sounded sterile anyway.
I wanted something elaborate, that’s written well and speaks to me. But I am not good at writing. I also didn’t want to spend too much money either because I am starting off. This put me in a loop where I just got stuck. Feeling alone, I kept delaying.
Suddenly I had a partner
Kai is very professional, yet acts like a friend: very positive, very calm. He understood my agitations and came back with ideas, strategies or results. His calmness, understanding and empathy were very important to me and made me feel I had support. He broke down the emotional barriers, the invisible wall I was facing.
Kai is hard working, passionate and handled everything very well. He was determined, but not pushy. He said what would be good to have for the site and explained how that was to my advantage. But he kept writing even when he had little material to work with.
He asked all the right questions and he was very good at getting the information he needed. Even though he’s not part of my industry, whenever he wrote about it, I felt like he knows.
I am very happy with my website
It came out really well. And I know how I can update my site and add content as my business grows. My favorite part is the homepage, where it says that localization is not about languages but about trust: the whole message, how it reads and intrigues, while being different. It’s also what sets me apart, because a big company cannot write that on their website…I mean who actually trusts a big company?
But there are a lot more things I like
Pretty much everything…the way the testimonials are structured, and the “Why Us”. It’s an honest statement about us, what we do and how we do it, how important our clients are for us and how we treat them. It’s even a bit philosophical, which I actually like most.
It really represents what I am thinking. Without overselling, it expresses how I really work. Kai really captured me. When I read it, I can see myself. I almost don’t mind if people like it or not because it’s so true and exactly how I want to do things.
Then there is also the part where it says how we take care of the parts our client can’t because of their neck-breaking deadlines, how we allow them to focus on their business while we take that burden off their shoulders.
I recommend Kai’s whole package, everything he did for me
Especially for everyone who feels as stuck as I did. Sometimes the simplest things become huge obstacles. Kai took care of all of them. He asked one question, what’s the password for your server, and took it from there. I didn’t have to do anything else. With this huge weight off my shoulders, I could do the things I am good at and where I’m comfortable: finding clients and building my business.
Writing is so far out of my comfort zone and if I wanted to create the text for my website, I’d have to take a week off and go somewhere, clear my mind. Then, maybe, it might work.
There’s a thin line between marketing and bragging about yourself
Kai excelled at capturing me. He didn’t write the neutral things that most company’s have on their websites. Everything is personal and makes me happy. And the whole process didn’t drag on like before, he finished within the deadline he agreed to.
The thing that stood out most about Kai
It absolutely showed that he knows marketing and consumers. Even though he doesn’t know the details of the translation business, he understood how to market my services. Of the different possible ways to do it, he positioned me as a boutique agency. Because I am not one of the big factories and neither the little providers who run after every job. I kept thinking “He got it.”
I could not have built the same website with anyone else.
